I'm looking to make a small batch of about 3 gallons. I have a few 1 gallon jugs and standard 6.5 gallon buckets. I'd rather not split the batch into the 1 gallon jugs to just recombine them in the bottling bucket.

Would it be a bad idea to ferment the batch in the standard bucket?

The OG will be about 1.059 and FG would be about 1.017

Thanks!

Primary fermentation will produce more than enough CO2 to blanket your beer. Plenty of historic beer was fermented un- or very loosely covered. Just don't rack to secondary in a large vessel and you'll be fine.
