Gravity question

Hey guys this is my fourth beer i've made and I decided to design my own recipe.

I took a gravity reading after I cooled my wort down to 70 degrees and got a reading of about 1.090. Now my question is does that gravity reading change since I added roughly 2 gallons of water to my fermenter to make up the 5 gallons?

yes, if you had 1.090 in 3 gal and you added 2gal of water you should have around 1.060 now

1.090 (90 points) of 3 gallons of wort is 270 points. Diluted to 5 gallons:

270/5 =54, or 1.054.

If you took the reading before adding the water then yes it will be lower...

Thanks guys.. I think the most valuable lesson i've learned in brewing, is it takes a lot of brewing to learn these lessons
