Is 9 gallon the minimum size kettle for 5-6 gallon all grain batches?

You could go smaller if you had to but I wouldn't.

Me? No, I still use it as I do not have my Rims Single Tier stand fully set up yet....Still using old floor burner.

Is there any reason to go bigger should have been my question. 30 qt seems to be pretty common, but I don't want one that small. The next step up at Bass Pro is 60 qt.

How would this work for 5 gallon all grain batches? I'm looking to get a new kettle when I go all grain but don't want to be wishing I had something bigger 6 months from now.

I use it for 5gallon batches, works fine. I fill it up 7 gallons, after boil I have 5 1/2, after transfer to fermenter leaves me w/ 5 gallons of wort.
