I've got my first 5 gallon batch of cider into its 6th day (Ed's recipe). It has been fermenting nicely for 3 days in a 6 gal carboy. I don't know if there's a way to rate the fermentation activity, but it's been going at about 30 burps or bubbles a minute. Until today. It has slowed to 10-12 burps a minute. Maybe I'm watching it too closely because I'm over anxious, but is it expected to slow down so quickly? I feel sorta like a mother hen worrying about her chick.

You're fine--I had 5 gallons ferment almost completely out at 10 days. Slowing down at 6 is perfectly fine and normal.

Stop worrying and leave it alone for a month or two. Honestly, the yeast knows what it's doing but it doesn't know how to count burps. :p

I've left both batches of my apfelwein in in the fermenter for at least 2 months. It will probably be done fermenting in ~3 weeks (give or take).
