I know most of us have done an internet search for our own names at some point. I've always been pleased with the lack of personal information that appears about me. Fortunately, the same still holds true in terms of personal data, but I just had an interesting experience...

I did a Google search for [ame="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=bench+capper&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq="]bench capper[/ame] so that I could find a picture or link to reference in a thread here. The first hit was [ame="https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/diy-bench-capper-26795/"]DIY Bench Capper[/ame] - my own thread!

Just for grins, I searched, [ame="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=conical+fermenter&btnG=Search"]conical fermenter[/ame] and [ame="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=steam+mashing&btnG=Search"]steam mashing[/ame]. I'm in the top two Google results for both! Unfortunately, a Wikipedia entry is the top result for [ame="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=apfelwein&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq="]apfelwein[/ame], with EdWort's thread a not so distant second.

Anyway, here's a toast to the resounding success of HomeBrewTalk. Thanks to everyone for making it a great resource for a rewarding hobby. Prost!

I just Googled my name, and the first one in the list was a memorial site for me. Damn, can't they wait until I'm dead?

I also found out that I'm a professor, a realtor, and a journalist. I should be raking in the cash, but where is it?

There are at least three other people with my name, which surprised me a little.

They all seem okay so far, but I'm keeping an eye on 'em. :D

Yeah, every time a do search for beet related equipment or process HBT is normally number one on the list.
My last name isn't very common, and I was surprised to see that I had apparently shot and killed 2 pizza delivery men for kicks several years ago. The super strange thing was is the guy is about a month younger than I.

I am an artist, a musician and a couple of other things so the real me is never even close to the top of the page. In fact, I took the time a while back to really dig and try and find myself, pretty tough. One picture, that's all. Common name is pretty nice

I've run in to the same stuff, when I looked for Cream Soda recipe and other things like that. I wonder if Google checks your cache to see what sites you have been on and prioritizes it's results based somewhat on that.

I don't think so Google is how I found this site trying to find some new recipes. I'm glad they suggested it though.

My email address is my full name @ hotmail. I received an email last year referencing something I'm not very capable of (professional cooking). Turns out I share the same first and last name of one of Gordon Ramsay's proteges, as well as, some graphic artist in Australia.

If you google my name, you won't find any reference to me.:D

Crap...I just did:

Not exactly a google search but I did get my picture on [ame="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=1221+north+russell+street+missoula+mt&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=54.533615,79.013672&ie=UTF8&ll=46.88875,-114.016972&spn=0,359.98071&t=h&z=16&layer=c&cbll=46.882923,-114.01723&panoid=DYlod6YQBhxBZLl4sK1H5w&cbp=12,135.06,,0,5.27"]google maps street view[/ame]

My one and only claim to fame!

WOW thats awesome Did you actually see the car or van that was taking the pictures? Me and my wife were talking about that the other night wondering
wtf they were driving..

No, I had no idea that the picture was taken. The picture was taken on the street where I work. One of my coworkers found it and let me know. Google Street View is really a cool tool. My son moved to Arlington, TX and we were able to describe his neighborhood to him without ever going there. Kind of spooky what technology can do these days.
