I have a pin lock keg that doesn't have a manual pressure release valve. I always use the gas poppet to release pressure, but now I just got a new CO2 regulator that has a manual pressure release valve. When I turn off the gas to my tank, can I vent my keg using the pressure release on the regulator? Or should I just use the poppet?

Depends on whether the regulator is equipped with a back-flow preventer (aka "check valve"). If it has one, releasing the pressure at the regulator won't affect the pressure in the keg. If it doesn't you're good.

One caution though: if there is no check valve and you ever fill the keg above the gas in dip tube, pressurize the tank, then release the pressure, you'll have beer shoot up the gas line and if it reaches the regulator you'll be in for a rebuild...

Cheers!
