How long do crushed grains keep? I bought an extract kit that had crushed grains to steep back on 11/27/12. I brewed the kit last week(1/27/13). They sat in my garage 2 weeks while I waited for my beginner brewing kit and I read that they should be stored in the refrigerator. The brewers set came with a free extract kit that I brewed first.

When I tasted the wort after brewing it had a ?grassy? taste. Will this fade with proper aging?

Is 2 months too long to keep crushed grain?

I've kept it in a freezer longer than that.

What is the shelf life a kit? There should be a hint there.

Look through the threads at the bottom of this page also.

Being out in the garage where you are might've been a bit warm. I keep the sealed grain bags,LME,& yeasts in the fridge. They keep way better in there. Hops in freezer bags in the top of the freezer. The "grassy notes" are from the hops.

Cool. Thanks, I never noticed the threads at the bottom.
Sounds like they should still be good.
Next time I won't order so many kits at the same time.
