What do specific ingredients do to your beer?

What would adding 2 lbs of dextrose to the wort during the boil do? Would it up your ABV?

What about adding an extra LB of Malt grains to your steeping bag?

ect..............

Just rying to get an idea of what stuff does if I wanna make my own recipe.

Yes it would up the ABV. It would also 'dry' the beer out because there are more fermentables, depending upon the strain of yeast that you are using.
