I just found out i got a new job....more pay on my career path....

how do i quit?

(respectfully of course ;)

Two week notice and a thank you? I don't think there is much more to it. Employers understand that sometimes people leave for better opportunities.

ya that's what i was thinking.....
i just have this odd corporate loyalty....

i feel bad, and i dont know why.

Congratulations on your new job. I've been working for some guy named Uncle Sam for 15 years, so I don't have any experience on how to quit.

just say buh-bye i quit today. tell the new place that you gave 2 weeks notice. then enjoy a 2 week vacation!

back in the day, i quit one place for a better job. when they said i couldn't quit and they needed me, i reminded them about giving me a 5 cents an hour raise a month before, and the new place was offering me twice as much pay. what are you saying, i can't quit? they really told me that i couldn't quit. i laughed and walked out. they sent me a letter that i was fired and they needed my name tag back. never got the name tag back, and i had proof that i quit first.

now i have a masters degree, and i get paid stupid amounts for doing very little work. college is good.

Dont feel bad at all.

Give them a two week notice. Thats all you can do.

Congrats on the new job.

Here's how you quit: slide frozen sheets of urine (previous meal being lots of asparagus and cabbage) under your boss' door on a Saturday. Oh and a note on his door saying "I QUIT"

Not that I've been thinking about doing this, or anything.....

It used to be back in the day that it was expected that you give two weeks so they have a chance to hire a replacement. Sadly, these days it's more like "You don't give me two weeks when you fire me, why should I give you two weeks to quit?"

If you think your current job and coworkers are OK and feel bad about shafting them, then give your notice. If you don't care one way or the other, see solution above.

No, just been working at the same job a little too long, and worked in the corporate world for a lot longer.

I knew I should have been a botanist. Plants don't ever sass you. Plants don't plot and scheme behind your back taking credit for things you did. Plants happily grow and do their work, turning green and making oxygen. Plants will listen to your ideas without rolling their eyes.

And if they give you any crap you can chop them up and eat them... or bury them... or smoke them...

Now if you will excuse me, there's a shed in Montana and my manifesto awaits!

I just give my manager a letter with 2 weeks notice. I never say why I'm quitting. Sometimes a company will take the notice and just escort you to the door. When you are a sysop and have root access to all of a company's computer systems, they can get a little weird. Particularly if you quit right after they replaced your manager with the north end of a south-facing herbivore!
