I'm thinking of building one. My stuff runs on 220V anyways, so I can't just buy one of the pre-made ones, and anyways it sounds like a fun project.

If I wanted to go with the modified RiteTemp temp controller then I have one important question: what is the power source (input) for the temp controller itself?

Has anyone ever looked into modifying the internal temp control? Seems like it already has all the right parts, just doesn't adjust far enough

Any temp controller will work, just use 220V rated SSRs (solid state relays). You can get them cheap on ebay. The control input can be AC or even DC based on the model.
