I'm making a porter this month and want to do a partial mash kit from austin to ease my way into all grain brewing. There are two options of kits to order for partial mash. One kit includes the DME, the other includes the LME. I'm not sure I understand what the difference would be if I ordered the mini mash kit with just the LME or ordered the kit with just the DME.

What does it matter?

It's a matter of preference really. I have had bad experiences with LME and will never use it again. That being said there are a lot of people on here that swear by it.

They sell fresh extract,it will be ok.Its a matter of preference,i prefer LME.

I don't like LME, I haven't used it in years. recently helped a buddy with his first brew and he showed up with 2 cans LME... confirmed I still don't like the stuff.

it's a pain to get out of the can, can't save it after it's open, and need to soak can in hot water to get it to be pourable. Also have noticed it does darken final color of brew.

Dry allows you to reserve 1 1/4 cup for bottle conditioning
