Using liqueur as ingredient

My MIL gave me a copy of homebrewing for dummies awhile ago. I started browsing it and opened to a page mentioning adding fruit liqueur as an ingredient or as the sugar for priming. Sounded interesting. Wondering if anyone has played around with this idea and had any good/bad experience to share.

IIRC Big Kahuna did a "pirate stout" a few years back that primed with rum. I don't remember how it turned out though.
