Hey gang,

I am working on an Oatmeal Stout recipe that calls for Edme Ale Yeast. Being a fan of White Labs, can you suggest a good substitute?

2 lbs Caramel/Crystal Malt 60L
1 lb Roasted Barley
6 lbs Dark DME
1oz Cluster - 45 mins
1 oz Williamette - 45 mins
1 oz Williamette - 6 mins
1 lb Oats - 0 mins
1 pkg Edme Ale Yeast

Thanks in advance

1lb oats at 0 mins? What do you mean by that?

Also, the edme strain is safbrew 33.

For liquid yeast in stouts, I like just about any English strain like Wyeast 1335 or even a London ESB strain.

I know you didn't ask for comments on that recipe, but I can't help it. That's a bad recipe. Too much crystal malt, along with dark DME and oats at 0 minutes mean a starchy "thick" very sweet cloying results. Too many bittering hops, too. I'd start over with a new recipe.

Thanks for the feedback.

This recipe is straight out of BeerSmith sample recipes. Didn't catch the Oats for 0 mins, not sure where to go from here

I like my English Porter recipe and thought this might be a good close second

With a Hef in bottle and a Porter in the fermenter, I'm in no hurry
