I think if you boil rubber products in your beer, you'll taste it. When I used them, I carefully removed the elastic band. I don't use a hop container anymore, I just throw the whole mess in the kettle, and what gets into the primary settles out quikly, that which doesn't settle, I strain.

Probably not, but I wouldn't make a practice of it. Report back here when you find out if you can taste it or not. :mug:
 
I use 'em all the time and instead of just tossing the whole thing in, I use normal kitchen string, tie off the top in a reasonably loose knot and hang 'em from the side of my boil kettle.

the nice way of doing it that way is that I can pull up the bag, open it, and do hop additions really easily.

But sorry... don't know on the rubber taste. I haven't done that.
