I bought yeast in the plastic tube today (white labs). I forgot to refrigerate it for 6 hrs after getting it home.

Did I foul it up? Should I proof it before pitching it, or make a starter?

When are you brewing? I would make a starter w/ WL yeast anyway. Of course I make a starter with all of my yeasts anyway. My results have always been much better with starters. If you haven't used starters, then try it. You'll be pleased with the result. Disregard what WL and Wyeast say about it being enough to inoculate 5 gallons; maybe but starters never hurt and usually help.

Regards,
Al

Plus, if you so make a starter, you can use just a little bit of the original strain, preserving the rest for future brewing sessions.

I left my yeast outside for a few days once. Forgot I had it in a plastic bag when I bought it and it was fine. But fort he best results, of course you should refrigerate it.
