Just racked first batch of plain mead to carboy and was surprised at heavy alcohol taste and lack of honey taste, just hoping aging takes care of that. Know to be patient and my SG was at 1.010 at racking.

What was your original recipe? If it was a pretty simple traditional, honey, water, yeast, nutrient recipe it will mellow surprisingly quick. Not overnight mind you but within a month or two it will be decent. Actually probably taste better than many commercial meads even at that point. Then age it for awhile so it becomes perfectly clear before bottling ( I like to rack a 3rd or 4th time depending on sediment) and it will just get better and better, might even drop a little further to like 1.000
