My root beer looks like water.

So...I recently made this root beer. It tastes great! I put the whole 5 quarts of syrup into my keg and filled it up, so my ratio is a bit off. My only issue is...it looks more like tea than root beer.

Can anyone see a reason why this recipe would turn out so light colored? Also...can I just add food coloring to make it darker?
 
I get the same color when making more traditional root beers. I think that is probably the color root beer originally was. I think we're now used to root beer with carmel coloring which makes it darker.

You could probably add carmel coloring if you wanted it darker, but I would go 'old school' and drink it as is.
