Bard's Homebrew Kit

Has anyone tried the Bard's Homebrew kit? It uses malted sorghum extract instead of just sorghum syrup. It's a little pricey - Midwest has it for $48 for a 5 gallon kit.

I'm also curious - if this kit has malted sorghum extract, is there any other place that sells the extract by itself?

I've been tempted by that kit to try and add some other hops, etc. to it and make a better beer than Bard's, but $48 + shipping is a ton of money for what you get, IMHO.

I've heard it's not that great, never tasted anything made from it myself, other than Bard's commercial brew of course.

I brewed it. And the wife (she's GF) and I like it. Sorghum will never be like traditional beer. It is what it is. But, I like the Bards more than an ale I made with other sorghum extract. FWIW, I kegged mine, not bottled. Wife is very happy to have keg beer while watching football.
