Does anyone have information/recipe/experience for a Juniper Pale Ale?

Also looking for information on Juniper additions, amount, timeline...?

Seems like most add them at 5" and possibly into the secondary?

I have been working on a recipe for a couple years now and still not completely satisfied but.... for a 5 gal batch I add 1 and 1/2 ounces of CRUSHED juniper berries (it seems like a lot) at two minutes in the boil. I then let them remain in the primary. I have found that you have to crush and introduce them to heat to have any real effect. I will be interested in others comments as well!.

I used 2 oz of crushed juniper berries that was then soaked in some 75% ethanol for 1 week. This was added to the keg when it was filled. I loved the flavor, but it was a bit overpowering in a 4.5% ABV beer. Next time I'll probably up the grains to raise the ABV, and I'll probably cut back to 1 or 1.5 oz. of juniper berries.

I really like the combo of rye and juniper. I thought the caraway was perfect, and the juniper was too much, and the rosemary, just a smidge too much. My hop choices were to play up the piney notes. Maybe if I had used a citrusy hop, the juniper might not have been too much, but then, I personally don't want a bunch of citrusy hops in a holiday brew.

Holiday Ale 09 Base beer is a Scottish Export 80
