This is my first attempt at making my own recipe and any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

Recipe Type: All Grain
Yeast: Wyeast Irish Ale 1084
Batch Size (Gallons): 5.5
Original Gravity: 1.057
Final Gravity: 1.015
IBU: 17.6
Boiling Time (Minutes): 60
Color: 16.4
Primary Fermentation (# of Days & Temp): 10ish days
Secondary Fermentation (# of Days & Temp): 7 -10 days

Irish Red

Grains
----------------------------------------------
9 lbs Marris Otter
1 lb Briess 2-row Carapils
.25 lbs Simpsons Roasted Barley
.25 lbs Biscuit

Hops
-----------------------------------------------
1 Oz Fuggles pellets @ 60 min
1 Oz Goldlings, East Kent pellets @ 15 min

Mash at 154 degrees for 60 mins, fly sparage. Should get around 85% eff.

Thanks,
Tb

That looks like a good start, I have just a couple suggestions:
1. Do you really need the Carapils? At 154 degree mash, it should already be full bodied.
2. You may consider adding some crystal malt(s) to get the desired caramel/toffee flavor. Try 1/3lb c120 and 1/3lb c20.

The biscuit should be a nice touch, and the roast barley is about the right level.

Classic hops selection - nice. This will make a nice beer; add some crystal if you want to ramp up the caramel tones.

Thanks for the advice. I took out the caraplis and went with 4 oz of c20 and c120. More than that seemed to be a bit too much for me. We will see how it turns out :ban:
