I am planning to brew an IIPA later tonight, but i am a bit torn on how to use my inventory of hops. i love a very hopy aroma and flavor.
i have the following hops in my inventory, and can't just run out and add to my stash.
4 oz Chinook
2 oz Mt Hood
2 oz Amarillo
2 oz Cascade (might exchange with my brew buddy for 2 oz chinook as i should have bought him Cascade )
here is my current plan:
Type: Extract
Date: 4/21/2009
Batch Size: 5.00 gal
Boil Size: 3.00 gal
Boil Time: 60 min
Ingredients
Amount Item Type % or IBU
11 lbs Pale Liquid Extract (8.0 SRM) Extract 84.62 %
2 lbs Caramel/Crystal Malt - 20L (20.0 SRM) Grain 15.38 %
4.00 oz Chinook [13.00 %] (60 min) Hops 83.4 IBU
2.00 oz Cascade [5.50 %] (30 min) Hops 13.6 IBU
1.00 oz Amarillo Gold [8.50 %] (15 min) Hops 6.8 IBU
1.00 oz Mt. Hood [6.00 %] (3 min) Hops 1.2 IBU
1.00 oz Amarillo Gold [8.50 %] (Dry Hop 7 days) Hops -
1 Pkgs Burton Ale (White Labs #WLP023) Yeast-Ale
Beer Profile
Est Original Gravity: 1.081 SG
Est Final Gravity: 1.021 SG
Estimated Alcohol by Vol: 7.80 %
Bitterness: 104.9
Est Color: 13.8 SRM
I am thinking that if i end up giving up my Cascade then i might add the other 1 oz of MT Hood to the boil for 30 min, or i might use the Mt Hood for the dry hop and boil 1oz of Amarillo for 30 min. Does anyone have any thoughts on how these changes might affect the final product? Am i on the right track with this, or am i crazy. Feel free to offer any ideas on how you would change things as far as use of hops and boil times..
cheers
