I would like to wire the alarm output on my PID to control a piezo buzzer. I would like the buzzer to start when the alarm output is closed, and then be able to mute it with a push-button switch. Once muted, it shouldn't re-trigger until the alarm output has opened.

Is there some standard IC that can drive a piezo in this manner? It seems like overkill to pull in a couple of relays to do it...

easiest thing to do is use a piezo module, they have modules that can be directly driven by anywhere form 5 to 48v directly. and already have the panel mount figured out. as for your mute, relay is the simplest, you could do it with logic buffer of transistors.
