So today I stepped up and brewed my first all grain beer! Today I brewed up my own version of a Brown Porter but with a little more hop power to it. I am planning to brew up a bass ale clone. Hopefully all will go well. I constructed my own mlt out of a 10g rubbermaid cooler and pieced to gether some 1/2" copper tubing as the false bottom. Worked wonderfully. I was a little worried before venturing down this road but I am quite surprised how easy it really was. Using beer smith, I calculated the recipe. Listed below:

My OG reading ended up being a little higher than calculated. Beer smith listed 1.051 as the estimated OG but I ended up with 1.056. I can only assume that my efficiency is higher that the 70% listed by beer smith. The beer was originally supposed to be a hoppier brown ale but I mistakenly went with 1lb of chocolate instead of a 1/2lb. So I am thinking it more as a brown porter.

I am looking forward to brewing again tomorrow! :mug:

Congrats on the first brew!! What was the pre boil and final volume? I generally start with about 7 gallons pre-boil, just curious what your boil off was!

My pre boil volume was about 6 1/2 and ended up with just over 5.
