Has anyone used oak chips in their secondary. I'd like to do a bourbon barrel brew without the barrel. I once read that if you take oak chips and char them then soak them in bourbon it is about the same thing. Anyone try this before. Thanks Dave

i used 1/2 ounce of plain oak chips in the primary and another 1/2 ounce for the second week of the secondary on my last hobgoblin clone.
it has only been bottled for 2 weeks now but the sample i tried today, while low on carbonation(i primed with dme) had a nice oak flavour.
i don't know about toasted chips, i would be leery of a burnt flavour, but hopefully someone who has tried it will chime in.
good luck:mug:
