Has anyone used an old clothes dryer motor to power their barley crusher?
I know the dryer is 220v but can the motor run on 110? Any insight would be appreciated.

That's exactly what I did. Got a couple of throw away dryers off of craigslist, gutted the motors and used one to motorize my malt mill. At least in my case, yes the motors were 110V not 220V. Most of the info that I used to figure out what to do about a mill sheave and a motor sheave I found here:

Motorizing a Malt Mill

Good luck,

Don

99% chance a dryer motor (in the USA) is 110 volts. It's extremely rare to see an A/C motor under a horsepower that isn't.

There should be a manufacturer's label stating the exact requirements. If you're lucky the dryer will have a nice big pulley for speed reduction as well.
