I am trying to upgrade some equipment/get more advanced. Here are my questions.

1. Can I boil using an aluminum turkey cooking setup?

2. Is it ok to aerate using a fish tank aerator and a standard fish tank stone?

3. How many btu burner will I need to boil 5 to 6 gallons of water and extract?

That is it. Thanks for any feedback.

John

1) Yes, though preferably with a new kettle...it's a ***** getting the oil and turkey smutz out of the used ones.

2) Yes, but preferably with a new stone.

3) Whatever btu the trukey fryer setup is will work just fine.

1. What Revvy said. PLUS, do a dry run full boil of just water in your pot before you boil the wort. This will create an oxidized protective layer on the inside of the aluminum pot. You'll only need to do this once, as long as you don't scrub the inside of the pot shiny while cleaning.

2. What Revvy said

Measure your volume before and after step 1 so you'll know your boil off rate.
