Looking for your thoughts on an oatmeal brown ale. I know this won't be close to Surly Bender, but that beer inspired me. What do you think?

3 gallon batch
OG: 1.053
IBU: 32
SRM: 17

4# two row
.5# munich
.3# Crystal 40
.1#Crystal 60
.2# Chocolate malt
.4# Rolled oats

.3 oz magnum 60 minutes
.75 oz cascade 15 minutes
.7 oz amarillo Flame out

The amarillo at flameout seems slightly heavy-handed for an oatmeal brown, although if you're a hop fan, it'll probably still be tasty. I might up the chocolate to .25#, as it should help balance the hop flavor a bit.

So if I cut the cascade and amarillo in half, you think that would be more balanced? Are the hop varieties OK? Thanks for your response.

Halving them both would probably be a bit more brownish, I'd say. And the varieties aren't exactly traditional for an English brown, but since you didn't state that's what you're after, they look fine. Magnum plays well with anything, and Amarillo and Cascade are wonderful together.
