Hey guys I made a starter for Wyeast Amer Ale yesterday afternoon by the instructions in clonebrews. I used 1 cup DME and 16 oz of water. There is fermentation activity in the airlock and some slight bubbles around the edge. There is no Krauesen at all. It looks kind of mild. The only starters I've done before have been wheat yeast and there was no doubt with them.

Can this thing be pitched as is?

Does it need to come to high Krausen?

This was one of the 1000ml (the one that supposedly needs no starter) slap packs, could it be the yeast just overwhelmed the measly cup of DME?

BTW the slap pack was fully swollen so I know the yeast is viable.

Thanks,
Al

Sounds a bit high powered for a starter. Take the airlock off and use some foil, shake it every so often. You want your starters to uptake oxygen while it is fermenting.
