Hops tasting exersize

I am wanting to learn the specific taste profiles for the main hops varities that are available. Is the best way to achive this to do many simple brews such as the AHS Just Beer Kits that contain "Carapils (for body), 2-Row, and malt extract" and one hop variety? Is there other better ways to single out the hop flavors, also can I reuse the yeast cake from one batch to the next without having the hop flavors being mixed?

Actually the way many of us do it is much easier, it's called a SMaSH.
