So I got this little pocket digital refractometer from Sper Scientific. I used it at work to check the sugar on our drinks (I work in a beverage company) and it worked fine and was right on. I bring it home to check my SG and it is always way off. I got 7.2 brix and 1.014 on hydrometer. This has happened before also with a different brew. It is calibrated too. Any idea why it's way off?

You need to make adjustments for the alcohol. There are formula's around that can help. Google search should come up with something.

morebeer has an excel spread sheat with the formula built in
