I read recently at a website that a typical sparge should take at least 60 min. Is this right?? In the past my sparges have not nearly been this long. I ususally do lots of recirculating before I sparge and then a few more runs through the grainbed during the sparge. Should I be spending more time sparging?

Well depends. Do you fly sparge or batch sparge? A 60 minute fly sparge thoroughly rinses the sugars from the grains. This is debatable, but a batch sparge can do just as well. And takes a fraction of the time.

What's your efficiency? If it's a bit low, and you fly, you may want to try a slower sparge to see if it helps. If it's good, why bother with it?
