It was the first in the company's history. It appears they wanted to capitalize on the economic downturn by giving us an unprecedented four year contract with next to nothing in it. Since the company wasn't affected by the downturn and in fact has been quite profitable, the manoeuvre didn't fly.
I don't have the details yet but the union has told us to put down the picket signs and go back to work pending a vote on the contract. The turnout on the picket lines was outstanding and I'm sure it went a long way towards showing a position of solidarity to the company. Now... back to work!
