i am doing a keg conversion today. I just dont have the false bottom yet. can anyone tell me how far up from the welded seam i need to drill the hole?

I drilled the center of mine about 2" above the bottom seam.

As close as possible. If you are doing a weldless set up I would put the washer inside the keg and put it as low as possible while keeping it flat against the wall, then mark the center and measure that from the seam. Transfer that measurement to the outside and drill.
