I have a batch of brew about 17 days old that has been sat quietly for the past week. However, tonight there seems to be an increase in the gas given off and the airlock is going every 15 seconds.

Is this bad as about ten days ago there was practically no activity at all.

The batch is sealed, airlock has been in place constantly. Any ideas?

I have a batch in the second week of secondary after a 3 week primary. The airlock is going off regular 3 or 4 times a minute. Assuming it's completed fermenting, it's just offgassing of CO2. Nothing to worry about.

If anything the weather has cooled. Originally the weather was quite hot but recently we've had nearly constant rain.

Its giving off carbon monoxide! Get out of the house now!

But seriously it is likely due to environmental changes - most notably temperature and/or atmospheric pressure

When the weather goes from sunny to rainy, that generally means the barometric pressure is dropping. That can cause CO2 to come out of solution. Take a hydrometer reading now, check it in a few days and if it's the same then you just have CO2 offgassing.
