I just brewed a batch of Summer Ale and went to add the yeast and discovered the pack didn't pop when I tried to activate it a few hours earlier. Once I discovered this, I added the liquid and then popped the pack and poured it into the batch and gave it a good stir.

Will this batch be ok? It's my second home brew ever. This was an extract brew if that helps.

Thanks and I really enjoy this site.

Eventually, you may want to head over to the Fermentation sub-forum and read up on yeast starters with liquid yeast.

The pack is just nutrients to make the yeast more active. You'll be fine.

For future batches, popping the inside thing causes the pack to swell. Since it didn't swell, I wouldn't have brewed fearing a bad yeast pack. Most kits say they can replace yeast but not whole kits.

From the horse's mouth.

From the Wyeast FAQ website:

3. Does the package need to be fully swollen before pitching?

No, The package can be pitched before activating, or at anytime during the activation process. The activation process "jump starts" the culture's metabolism, minimizing the lag phase.

Smacking though fun, is never really necessary.

Making the starter is all that matters, not whether or not the pack inflating. It's fine!!!

Yeah I guess it should take off. If not just go pick up some more yeast and dump it in.
As long as even thing was clean when u were touching the yeast inner packet
