I've posted about my frustration with living close to a major hop growing area and having so much trouble with my plants. Well, I saw an article today that really drove home how different my micro-climate is. Over in the Willamette Valley, 2009 was one of the driest years on record. Less than half the normal rainfall, about 20 inches. By contrast, I received 56 inches last year. The weather station is only 18 miles away!
And it's pouring right now. I need to go cut up a tree that is partially blocking the driveway, but I'm not willing to use a chainsaw in the rain unless it's a major emergency.
Time for a beer.
