Is there a general information blowoff tube thread?

Is the other end of the tube left open or is it sealed in some way to keep infection out?

It is put into a container of liquid..some use water, some use water/sanitizer, and some use vodka.

This is one using my 3-piece airlock mcguyvering from a couple years ago.

Just make sure that whatever it is going into is below the fermenter so that you don't risk it siphoning back in.

++1 This can be especially important if you are dropping the fermenter temperature for any reason. The temp change will cause the wort and air to contract and suck the contents of the blowoff jug back into the fermenter. If the jug is above the fermenter it can start siphoning the entire contents into your fermenter which could be very bad.
