I have one that I used back when I have a saltwater fish tank to measure the salinity of the water. Can it be used in beer making?

It needs to measure from 0 to at least 20 brix, that will be good for up to 1.080 starting gravity
The one I use goes from 0 to 32 brix
I am basing that remark on the assumption that a prism will refract light in the same manner on either instrument.
You can test it by comparing a small amount of wort to a hydrometer

hmmm...no wort to test...yet, but I'll certainly do that when I do. My refractometer has readings 1.000 - 1.070 on one side and 0-100 in increments of 5 on the other. So, not sure how that would translate over, guess I'll find out if it does, hopefully soon.

The 1.000 to 1.070 is a specific gravity scale. but will probably assume that the sample is measuring sucrose. It will give a reading approximately 4% higher that the true gravity when used with beer.
