6.00 lb Amber Liquid Extract (12.5 SRM) Extract 75.00 %
1.00 lb Cara-Pils/Dextrine (2.0 SRM) Grain 12.50 %
1.00 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 20L (20.0 SRM) Grain 12.50 %
0.50 oz Simcoe [13.00 %] (60 min) Hops 25.0 IBU
0.50 oz Simcoe [13.00 %] (40 min) Hops 22.0 IBU
0.50 oz Amarillo Gold [8.50 %] (20 min) Hops 9.9 IBU
0.50 oz Amarillo Gold [8.50 %] (5 min) Hops 3.3 IBU
The LME I used is MidWestern Gold (8-10). Grains were steeped in 2 gals of water for 20 minutes.
I know there is a ton of Simarrilo IPAs but I wanted a pale for the summer. This beer is everything I wanted. Great hop finish, well balanced malty foundation with a very dry finish. I catch myself just pounding these because its so easy to drink as well as great tasting.
Slight confession: I only moved to a secondary because I needed another primary for a different batch I had to make. I would have loved to have left this in the primary for the whole three weeks. Also, I never got an FG as my hydrometer broke ( it rolled off my desk). I took a reading in the secondary after a week and it was down to 1.012 already.
Cheers!
