I made an APA yesterday for the enjoyment,:mug: plus for the yeast cake to put a barleywine on.:drunk: Smart, says I, except my screen idea for the ball valve on the kettle needs some treaking. I ended up dumping the kettle into the carboy, with most of the hops and other gunk. I know others do this too, but will this be detrimental to the yeast cake and its future use??

Dumb question, but the washing technique will not remove the "stepped up" starter effect of brewing a 1.066 O.G. in anticipation of a much larger O.G. barleywine, will it?
