When do you put it in the kettle? Right away? Right before the boil? At the same time as the malt extract and hops?

I asked this in another thread but thought I'd start a thread for this question.

Thanks Revvy. I had my first boil over today and I had used Fermcap. I put it in right away. I have a 7.5 gallon kettle and I started out with about 6 gallons of water, anticipating boil off.

I always put it in when i start heating the wort. I've had a couple boil overs, but only when i've forgotten the fermcap.

I wait until I see the foam start to climb towards a boil over, then I add it a drop at a time until it starts to fall. I usually have to do that twice and after that it doesn't climb again.

I had to come back to this because I couldn't remember what people had said. Thank you for the replies.
