I'm planning on making a cider once my pumpkin ale is finished clearing in the next couple days. I was wondering if I can use the yeast cake from the secondary fermentor that my pumpkin ale was in. There is probably about 1/2"-3/4" of trub at the bottom.

I'm curious whether there is going to be enough yeast to make about a 2-3 gallon batch of cider. I guess if it's not fermenting like I had hoped I can always add more yeast, what do you guys think? I thought it may be good to use the pumpkin ale yeast since I'm sure there are also spices in there that fell out of the beer.

Thanks for the adivce!

If you were super worried about the trub you could wash the yeast and make a starter. I'm not sure of how the pumpkin pie spices will hold up over time but I would assume they should be perfectly fine for primary'ing a batch of cider.

I say go for it, it will probably taste awesome.
