Two minor AG questions

1) When batch sparging using a cooler and steel mesh braid, does the draining speed effect the efficiency? Or does that only come into play when fly sparging?

2) After collecting the mash and sparge runnings into a bucket, can you dump that in your kettle? Or do you need to quietly transfer it? I'm concerned about oxygen getting into the pre-boil wort.

As for #1 No, Speed doesn't affect Efficiency. Going too fast however can cause a stuck sparge. Just crack open your drain valve slowly. Remember to vorlauff!:)
