So, I had my roommate sell a motorcycle jacket on e-bay that I had bought from another friend. The deal was that we would take anything the jacked made above the $100 I spent on the jacket and turn it into a beer.

It finished at $187.50.

So here's the request:
I want a barleywine (19b - English Barleywine) that will cost roughly 87.50 before shipping from AHS.
This needs to be a BIG beer... 12% ? Calculated at 60% efficiency. Being VERY conservative on such a big beer.

How about throwing in some Biscuit? I likes me some biscuit malt.

How about this for a base? Comes out to $87.72

If you are using Maris Otter, I would back off on the Biscuit malt, maybe half or less. You also might consider splitting the crystal a little. Do maybe 2 lbs Crystal 40 and 1 lb Crystal 80 or even 120. English beers often have those darker crystal flavors.

What yeast are you planning to use?

Wasn't sure on the yeast.
Wyeast London ale perhaps?

So you are suggesting say:

22lbs MO
2lbs Crystal 40
1lbs Crystal 80/120
1lbs Biscuit

Hops? I don't do many English type ales so I don't know much about the English hops.

Just talked to the local brew shop. They agreed with brewsmith on the grain bill, so I think I'm pretty well set as far as a recipe goes.

Now, I just need a real nice mild brown ale to start up a yeast cake for the BW. Any suggestions for a short period brew? I know there is a 10 day challenge/recipe floating around on the site...

Alright, headed down to the brew shop today to pick up my "starter"
