Is there such a thing? I did the standard google search and came up with one reference, a Fosters beer produced in competition with Guiness.

If there isn't, then what would one look like? I am an extract brewer who's very interested in making one. I suppose the important question is what's the essence of a stout, and can it be applied to amber ales?

Here's the recipe I'm considering:

4 oz. amber malt
4 oz. roasted barley
4 oz. caramel 10L
4 oz. melanoidin
4 lbs. pilsen liquid malt extract
3 lbs. amber dry malt extract
1 oz. chinook hops 60 mins.
1 oz. kent golding 30 mins.
1 oz. kent golding at flameout.

Is this is a stout? Thoughts? Bueller?
