I've only made a few batches of beer. I have a pale ale that is ready for priming but it's not a full 5 gallons; more like 4-1/2 to 4-2/3 of a gallon. I'm going to use light DME to prime with. Is it okay to use 1-1/4 cups of DME or should I use less? If so, how much less? Or should I just have another beer and quit worrying about it?!

Too simple...1 1/4 C = 5/4, right? 5 gals of beer, right? = 1/4 C per gal. Sound about right to you? ;)

4 gal would be 4/4 C or 1, right?

It really doesn't have to be precise. It's a Pale Ale. Do you want it carbonated a lot? Use 1 1/4 C, if only some carbonation is desired then use 1 C. ;)
