So I don't have a mill yet and if I buy a 55 lb bag of grain I get it about half the price if I buy it by the lb so I keep it in 5 gal plastic buckets after it's milled it probably won't be there for more than a month at a time but has anybody done this is it ok?

You could buy a cheap Corona style mill and not have the worry. Usually unmilled grain in bulk is cheaper and would pay for the mill in a short time. I have one like this and it works fine for me. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0038NPJVG/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

As long as it stays dry and in a cool place you're fine. I've used milled grains that were 2+ months old before. When you're getting ready to use them take a good whiff and taste the grains, you'll know.
