Ok, not really, but I have re-purposed an old wheat grinder that my mother in law had sitting in her garage. I haven't seen many of these around and never seen one used for grinding grains for beer.

Oh BTW..This is my first post.....My name is Shane and I am a fairly new home brewer (although I have been reading, researching and living vicariously through home brewer friends). I currently have 2 brews in fermentation that should be in bottles in 2 then 3 weeks from now respectively.

Pretty sure I will be spending a lot of time around here.

In the mean time, here are some pictures of the grinder. I am sure the Mormon Craftsman who put this together never intended for it to be used in this manner.

That looks pretty darn cool. Hopefully you can adjust it to crush and not grind. BTW, welcome.

The size of the particles produced during grinding is determined by the distance between the fixed and spinning grindstones. There is a lever on the back that allows you to control the depth of the axle shaft of the motor itself. So far it looks like I have plenty of latitude from course grind to powder.

I thought you were going to, say, have 7 mash tuns or something :).

That's a pretty piece of gear.

No, but my eye keeps wandering to the conical fermenters in the LHBS.....just need to make sure the existing fermenters are ok with me bringing her home.....she looks like a nice breeder.....of yeast...

First off, welcome Shane. Get your wallet out, this is a fun hobby.

As far as the grinder goes, I'm sure Jos. Smith is rolling in his grave. But it is a damn cool grinder, probably the "prettiest" I have seen. Very nice.
