On Tuesday I brewed a 3 gallon all grain Red Ale. It was a modified BIAB. Used a big grain bag in a rectangular cooler.

It went pretty good except the OG came in at 1.048 the recipe I worked out on Qbrew stated it should come in at 1.059.

The one issue I did see was that the mash dropped to 147 near the end. I mashed for an hour. Could this had been the issue.

Background
6 lbs of Maris Otter Malt
1/4 lb of each crystal 120 and crystal 40
2 oz of roasted barley

1 3/4 gallon mash
1 1/2 sparge

after the boil and all done did end up topping off with 1/2 gallon of spring water.

Will try another batch in about 2 weeks, hoping for some suggestions to better the next brew here.

thanks

i think that the lower OG is more likely due to the crush of your grain rather than the cooler temp. If you had a fine crush, most of the conversion would have been done much earlier.
