Description: A slightly light-bodied stout with nice roast and cocoa flavors, and smooth mouthfeel thanks to the oats.
This is a recipe I made for the intention of neutering (removing as much alcohol as possible via re-cooking). If you are not neutering your beer, you will want to up your hop bill as this is otherwise way too low on IBU's
Process: Partial Mash - I did BIAB style with a dunk sparge. I added my malt extract with about 10 minutes left in my boil. Your milage may vary.
Recipe and process assumes a 60 min boil
Batch Size: 5 Gallons
Fermentables
6 lbs - Dark Malt Extract (LME)
2 lbs - 2-row
6 oz - Chocolate Malt
6 oz - Unmalted Roasted Barley
2 oz - Caramel 80L
6 oz - Flaked Oats
Hop Bill
Cascade - .5 oz @ 60 min (at start of boil)
Cascade - .5 oz @ 30 min
Fuggles - .5 oz @ 10 min
(for the portion that I converted to near-n/a, I added .5 oz of Fuggles when recooking)
Other
Irish Moss - .25 tsp @ 10 min
Yeast
US-05 (or any other clean ale yeast)
OG: 1.047
FG - 1.011
I let my primary go 3 weeks, set aside 3 gallons to convert to near-n/a, and bottled the rest. about 1 oz per gallon for priming sugar should do
Suggestions welcome!
